PATRICIA & VICTOR
OUR STORY
Patricia and Victor first met in the summer of 2013 when she subbed for his friend's ultimate team. Nothing much came of this night of casual frisbee throwing and beer drinking, except a plan. Their mutual friend, Tracy, began a year of relentless attempts of setting them up. Victor, an engineer, being oblivious to most social situations, had no idea. Patricia, on the other hand, successfully averted invitations to several kareoke nights, BBQs , and an orphan Christmas party. Even playing on the same sports team together again failed as Victor got a blood clot the same week Patricia wrecked her knee. It wasn't that Patricia was unattracted to Victor. Rather, Patricia had a tendency to drop everything and go travelling last minute, taking full advantage of her single life.

Over a year later, Tracy finally managed to trick Victor into helping Patricia paint her new condo. Their other mutual friend uncharacteristically no-showed because he "slept in" leaving the two alone together. As both of them are quite introverted, that afternoon was full of awkward conversations with Victor painting one side of a door and Patricia the other. Although they spent an afternoon without any eye contact, 11,886 text messages were exchanged in the next month. Good thing for them, they both had unlimited text messaging.

After their awkward first date, again with little eye contact, they somehow continued to communicate and meet up. After a few more dates, they were essentially inseparable, living together within 3 weeks, adopting their first dog together after 6 months, and abandoning said dog to travel after 4 weeks of bringing him home. For those who know Patricia, she is quite competitive. She enjoys being first in everything, however nothing has been quite as enjoyable as being Victor's first girlfriend, getting their first dog, Alfred, and shopping for their first house together.

THE PROPOSAL
The third of every month is important to Patricia and Victor, as it represents the day of the month that they met and started dating. Victor was hoping the third of June was going to be just a little more special. Victor got Patricia flowers and a card for their anniversary, trying to downplay the significance of the day and to throw her off a little. They started the evening with the tasting menu at Q Haute, one of their favorites and mirroring one of their earlier dates. The tasting menu had one other perk, the 10 course meal would take long enough for the sun to go down, or so Victor hoped. As the end of the meal approached, the sun had not set. Victor, needing to stall longer proclaimed, "Let's get ice cream at Village," continuing the mirroring of past dates. Patricia quickly agreed and added that they should go for a walk at the dog park as well, a walk they had done many times at their special place. The plan was falling into place.

As they walked to the car after dinner, they were far too full to get ice cream. But that was ok as the sun had set, so off to the dog park they headed. As Patricia and Victor parked the car and approached their special spot, Patricia saw the fence covered in twinkling lights, like the evening sky above. Patricia knew something was up, but how did this come together? It was she that suggested the walk in the dog park. Patricia and Victor walked to their special spot and danced to their song, as if they were the only two people in the world. As the song ended, Victor dropped to one knee and asked Patricia the most important question he had ever asked anyone. With tears in her eyes and a quiver in her voice she said yes. It was the perfect moment and the perfect surprise......if only she hadn't guessed exactly what Victor had planned, including when and where he would ask, just days before. Although Patricia had been expecting the proposal all day, her genuine reaction and the smile on her face confirmed to Victor that Patricia was the one he would happily spend the rest of his life with.

Aye Chan Phyu

Patricia met Aye Chan at Aye Chan's 19th birthday party. Over the last decade, Ayc Chan has served as Patricia's devil's advocate in debating the philosphies of life, always offering a different perspective. The two have shared several travel adventures from volunteering in Tanzania to whale watching in Tofino. They also spent endless nights energized with coffee completing last minute assignments. Though Patricia is always late, she can always count on Aye Chan to be later.

Fun fact: You are better off wandering aimlessly than asking for directions from either of them.

Carrie Tran

Even though they went to different high schools, Patricia and Carrie became instant friends over their shared family values. They were pretty inseperable through their teenage years until Patricia moved away to university, spending long hours on the phone and making up codenames for everyone and everything. Carrie has always been supportive, caring, and reliable. Although they have grown up, Carrie physically stopping a little early, Patricia knows Carrie will always be there no matter what.

Fun fact: Even though Carrie is much shorter, barely reaching 5 feet, she has bigger hands than Patricia.

Allan Anderson

Victor first met Allan in 4th year engineering as "that other guy with the Phaneuf jersey." As luck, or fate, would have it, Allan and Victor both started their jobs on the same day in the same place, where they shared an office. Through their mutual browsing of ign.com and CalgaryPuck, their friendship grew. Allan and Victor were often seen together, to the point where their boss confused the two. Allan is Victor's video game, sports, and Flames buddy.

Fun fact: Many people are surprised that he and Victor are not marrying each other.

Dmitri Bobko

Dima is one of Victor's oldest friends, having known each other for over half of their lives. They met in grade 7 taking the bus to and from school and developed their friendship playing basketball, trying to be better than Dima's legendary grandma. Through the years, Dima has been Victor's source for life advice, his travel buddy, IT support, and has seen Victor through all the highs and lows. Victor is looking forward to their first couples trip, exploring his motherland, with Dima and his wife Yukari.

Fun fact: Dima loves cars and is expecting a Cadillac CTS-V from Yukari one of these days.

Sylvia Leong Bombeo

Most people spend their early to late teens partying and experiencing their first hangover. Not Sylvia and Patricia, blooming a little later in life, they expericened their first "when did that happen?" moment on a houseboat trip they co-captained a few years ago. Since then, their adventures include test driving her yaris up mountains, building larger than necessary bonfires, and paragliding in Peru. If Patricia adopted Alfred before meeting Victor, his name would likely be "Perro," meaning dog in Spanish with Sylvia being co-mom.
We would like to thank Sylvia for making Alfred look like a star in our "Save the Date" pictures.
Fun fact: Sylvia can almost imitate any accent, ask her!

Uzair Quraishi

Witty, generous, mysterious. These are some words used to describe Uzi. Victor meet Uzi in high school through their mutual friend, and partner in crime, Traci. If Victor was ever in trouble, or needed a helping hand, Uzi was always there to help. Uzi once let Victor copy his programming assignment, unfortunately the rest of the class copied it as well. We would have gotten away with it if one of our classmates remembered to put his name on it instead of Uzi's. Whether it's needing someone to cut class with to play basketball , going for a double sushi dinner, or helping with a move, Uzi's your man.

Fun fact: Uzi did not have a watch or cellphone until well after university and can tell the time of day, within 5 minutes, through magic or sorcery.

WE'RE SO EXCITED
TO CELEBRATE WITH YOU
Please note for the Fernie event, while children are welcome to the ceremony, the evening reception is an adults only affair. Please inquire with Patricia and Victor about child care options.

We do not have a wedding registry. In following Chinese traditions, we would appreciate red pockets towards our honeymoon.
